Ballot printing error affects Milwaukee aldermanic race

Milwaukee’s voting officials are asking 200 voters who were absent to recast their ballots just a week prior to Election Day. Two weeks ago, Candidate LamontWestmoreland was still in the midst his campaign when he received the news from the electoral commission. He said that there was a possibility of incorrect ballots being sent, and that good ballots could be received. A viewer shared a letter from WISN 12 News explaining that a printing error had caused the incorrect order in which the candidates were listed on absentee ballots. Westmoreland clarified that the viewer was confused and that he felt more at ease about it. “The machine correctly reads the oval. It only reads the oval. The printed name is not displayed. He stated that if someone voted for me, it would vote for my opponent and vice versa. He said that there is a solution and he was satisfied with it. Westmoreland stated that he believes everything will go well. Both candidates shared with WISN 12 News that 700 ballots were originally intended to be sent, but 500 were discovered at the post office and subsequently mailed out. Annette Jackson (the other candidate for District 5), stated that accountability is key. She admitted that she is aware of the fact that mistakes can happen. She is just glad that it is being addressed. WISN 12 News was informed by the election commission that new ballots had been sent and that if replacement ballots are not returned they will correct the original ballots so that the right candidate is elected.Jackson stated that although I was shocked and surprised, once I had recovered from the shock, it was okay. Claire Woodall-Vogg, Executive Director of the Election Commission, told WISN12 News that each ballot would be reviewed by two election workers in order to verify that the race was correctly arranged.
